About me

Hi, my name is Sarah. I'm a registered Counsellor and Art Therapist with over nine years' experience working therapeutically with children and adults, both individually and in groups, across Higher Education, the NHS, and the third sector in the UK.

My current practice focuses on adults, informed and enriched by my earlier work with children, young people, and families.

For the past five years, I have been part of the core team at the University of Edinburgh, working as a full-time Counsellor. I have recently moved to part-time, in order to focus more on my private practice.

Who I work with

I work with clients from all walks of life; I have a particular interest in supporting young adults from multicultural and international backgrounds, including:

  • Third Culture Kids (TCKs)
  • Expats and repats
  • International students
  • People in intercultural relationships

What is a Third Culture Kid (TCK)?

A Third Culture Kid (TCK) is someone who has spent a significant part of their childhood or adolescence living in a culture different from their parents' culture or country of citizenship.

Having navigated similar experiences myself, I understand the unique challenges of living between cultures and aim to support my clients in finding connection, clarity, and confidence in their journeys.

- Over 15 years of dedication to therapy and supporting clients.

The story behind See Therapy

“See” is part of my given name, while “Sarah” was shaped by school traditions and historical cultural influences. Reclaiming this part of my name has been part of reclaiming myself—my cultural identity, my ethnicity, and the fullness of who I am.

The Heart of My Work

The therapeutic space I offer reflects that journey. I aim to create an environment that encourages clarity (see), authenticity, and self-understanding, supporting you in embracing your whole self with compassion and confidence.

How I work

My approach is integrative, meaning I believe good ideas can come from anywhere. I draw on different therapeutic models to respond to your needs at different times.

Some of the approaches I frequently incorporate into my work include:

Art Therapy

A creative way to explore feelings that can be hard to put into words. It supports expression, reflection, and processing of emotions in a safe and meaningful way.

Psychodynamic

We explore how unconscious processes and past experiences may be shaping your present.

Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT)

Helps you understand your own mental states and those of others: thoughts, feelings, and intentions.

Neuro-Affirming

Focuses on accepting, respecting, and supporting people whose brains work differently, rather than trying to force them to act "normal" or behave by neurotypical standards.

Psychoeducation

Knowledge is power. I provide information and skills to understand mental health, emotions, and behaviour, helping clients make informed choices, manage symptoms, and develop coping strategies.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches

Focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Helps identify unhelpful thinking patterns and, if useful, explore techniques to change them.

Why choose me?

Passion for Art Therapy

Art Therapy is more than my profession — it is my vocation. For over fifteen years I have been dedicated to supporting people through creativity and therapeutic reflection.

Dedicated Training

MSc in Art Psychotherapy (International), BSc in Psychology, and Certificate in Theory and Practice of Hospital Play. I am committed to ongoing professional development and will begin a Certificate in Couples Work in May 2026, which will further support my practice.

Flexible and Collaborative Approach

I work both as a counsellor and an art therapist. Sessions may involve conversation, creative expression, or a combination of the two, depending on what feels most comfortable and helpful for you.
